Migraine, also known as migraine, is characterized by pain and throbbing that usually involves only one side of the head. Headache or migraine, pain is the most frequent headaches. It is most common in people between 20 to 50 years, although there are also cases in children who are just 3 to 5 years.

There are several types of migraine. The more frequent Migraine is the Common or Classic, which is characterized by pain in the middle of the head with a pulsating pain that begins in the forehead, temples and can cover the eye and spread to the other side of the head. Sometimes it is associated with nausea and intolerance of noise and light.

The pain may vary in intensity, from mild to very intense and desperate. Headaches are due to the abnormal interaction of the brain, with blood vessels and nerves inside. This interaction is due to abnormal alterations in substances neurotransmitters that control the functions of our body.

The causes that precipitate the pain are stress, insomnia, coffee, chocolate, red wine, cold cuts, old cheeses, soy sauce and other foods.

Migraine symptoms include disturbances in vision, hearing, perception of odors and flavors and feel that lasts about an hour. The visual aura is the most common type of aura and may include flashing lights, bright zigzag lines that move the eyes or "heat waves" that cut across the field of vision. Sensitivity, sensitivity to light, sounds, smells or the movement , nausea and vomiting are some of the common symptoms.

Other symptoms associated with migraine include:

 Upset stomach, abdominal pain
 Loss of appetite
 Feeling too hot or cold
 Paleness
 Fatigue
 Dizziness
 Visual disturbances
 Diarrhea
 Fever (rare)

Few other symptoms of migraine often include distorted vision, vertigo and hypersensitivity to light. A classic migraine is preceded by an aura in which a person sees flashing lights, shapes and colors distorted, and other optical illusions. This is known as the syndrome of Alice in Wonderland, because it resembles the experiences described by Lewis Carroll, who was suffering from migraine.

The classic migraine begins with an aura that lasts 10 to 30 minutes before the pain. During the attack, the aura disappears and the pain becomes more intense and pulsating. The pain attacks one side of the head. Sometimes vomit relieves the attack. A migraine can last from 30 minutes to 5 days or more.

Majority of headaches are not serious and heal themselves. However, frequent migraines may reduce the quality of life. While the motive is unknown, recent studies indicate that those who suffer have a higher risk of heart attack. The headaches that affect one side of the head are the most widely recognized symptom of migraine, but not the only one.
